The Simon Fraser University Men's Ice Hockey Team made their one and only trip to the East Kooteneys to take on the Selkirk College Saints in back to back games.
SFU not wasting any time after getting off the bus and playing scored 5 minutes into the first game Friday evening when Warren Gardiner opened the scoring with a slap shot past the Saint's goalie Spenser Wong.
Gardiner may have had the first goal but the it was Colby Kulhanek who took over the game with 2 goals back to back and adding another 2 assists.
SFU went on to win 7-0 with peppering Wong for 42 shots on goal.
SFU had tons of power plays in both games but had troubles scoring going 2 for 9 on Friday and 0 for 7 on Saturday.
In the Second game that was on Saturday afternoon, Colby Kulhanek picked up where he left off opening the scoring shorthanded 3:27 into the game.
Anthony Ferrari returned to the SFU lineup following a 1 game suspension as a result of being kicked out of each of his previous 3 games and made it known why he was in the lineup, scoring to make it 2-0 halfway through the first.
That is where Jaime Laprise just exploded, tallying a goal late in the first and adding another goal in each of the remaining periods for the Hat Trick and finished with a 4 point night.
But he wasn't the only one, both Ben Van Lare and Paul Moscone also had 4 point nights with Van Lare getting 2 goals and 2 helpers and Moscone quietly amassing 3 assists before adding a goal himself early in the 3rd.
SFU went on to win 9-2 with the Clan putting 52 shots on back-up goaltender Todd Hoodicoff.
SFU also saw action for the first time from 3rd string goalie Andrew Parent allowed only 2 goals on 28 shots from the Saints.
This weekends 3 Stars were hard to find with so many SFU Players playing well, but 3 did stand above the Rest:
3rd: Paul Moscone, though having only 1 goal in both games, he had 4 assists and has captained his team well following a tough 1-2 start out the gate and has led the team to winning their last 5 of 6 games.
2nd: Colby Kulhanek also struggled to find the scoring touch early in the BCIHL season, but has nicely rounded into form with 3 goals and 3 assists in the weekend's games and currently 1 point behind the league scoring lead behind team mate Jaime Laprise.
1st: Jaime Laprise stole the show Saturday with the hat trick and still adding another assist in the game, as well as 3 assists in Friday's game. So 7 points this weekend jumped him over his team mate Colby Kulhanek for the league lead in points with 17.
SFU now looks forward to 3 games this weekend, starting on Thursday when they take on the winless University of Fraser Valley in Abbotsford and play back to back again Saturday and Sunday in Victoria against the University of Victoria Vikes.
all games can be heard on the SFU Hockey Broadcast network.
