Hello SFU Hockey fans and families!
It's truly an honour to represent the media output for the organization.
I hope I don't disappoint in the early-goings. Tonight will be the first hockey broadcast for myself. Jon Szekeras, my colour guy and sidekick, has done a few from rink-side for the Richmond Sockeyes this season.
I wouldn't have any other way to kickstart the broadcasts with a heated rivalry game.
The Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack and SFU Clan have met in the BCIHL Finals the past two years with the Clan wining both games. Suffice it to say, the teams are not friendly with each other.
From the booth, I hope to see another strong showing from D Tyler Mah, not just because we both spent some time in Nanaimo, but because he's a heavy-hitter who pumps energy from the blue line.
I'm anticipating a physical game with plenty of chances for the two teams, but SFU will use the home ice advantage well enough to pull ahead and stay there.
That's my first bold prediction of the season on my first blog post. I hope I'm right!
Puck drop is 7 PM tonight at Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby, just down the road from Burnaby 8-Rinks.
See you there!
